The main reason, I suspect, is that a wedding is about the only respectable excuse for most people to throw a lavish party that they cannot really afford.

More recently, sociologists believed that the open and closed forms of question only complementary that information obtained through one or another form, if not identical, then at least don't contradict each other. If contradictions in the answers to these questions are available, they are caused by inadequate representation of the sociologist about the subject studied, which can correct the study in the open form of the question. No one was in doubt that the information obtained in open and closed forms of question reflects the same objective reality, though it may be, with varying degrees of accuracy, reliability, etc.
However, in recent years, many methodological experiments and sociological studies have shown that open and closed questions quite often give different information. Indeed, a number of studies carried out by us at industrial enterprises, educational institutions, in various organizations, analysis of information on identical questions built in various forms (open and closed questions) confirmed that the data obtained by them differ significantly. Mainly it concerns the following: "If You quit, why?" or "Your suggestion to improve the work of the enterprise" in various versions. Here is an example of a survey conducted at the mine to them. V. I. Lenin (Mezhdurechensk, the Kemerovo region).
To the question: "If You're going to quit, why?" in both open and closed questions the following data were obtained. (The interest calculation was made of the total number of respondents).
